Description:

This original oil on canvas by maritime painter David Short captures a traditional coastal fishing scene, with a single-masted boat navigating choppy waters near a rocky shoreline. The dramatic play of light across the waves and sails highlights Short’s interest in nautical subject matter, which has made his works popular with collectors of seascapes.

The painting is signed by the artist in the lower left corner and is presented in its original gilt-painted frame. Measuring 30.5 × 40.5 cm (unframed), this is a fine decorative example of 20th-century British marine art with documented provenance.

A note on the artist:

Born Nottingham 1940, David was encouraged to pursue his interest in art during his school years and later attended Nottingham School of Art. He painted as an amateur for a number of years spending a great amount of his time in Devon and Cornwall, studying the sea and in-shore boats.

During this period, David worked as a market trader dealing in Nottingham lace which enabled him to support his main interest - Painting.

David has always felt the need to vary his subject matter. He believes this variety keeps his work fresh and adds to its collectability. Initially his reputation was built around his marine work but his portfolio now includes landscapes, beach scenes, scenes of Tuscany etc and his work has been published as both fine art prints and greeting cards.

Since achieving his ambition to become a full time artist, his paintings are now much sort after by discerning galleries and private collectors throughout the world.
