Description:

This antique map, attributed to John Overton, is titled A New and Exact Map of Great Britannie. Originally engraved in the late 17th century and reissued through the 18th century, this edition is dated to 1784. The map depicts England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales in detail, and is richly embellished with cartouches, coats of arms, and city insets. Particularly notable is the inclusion of a plan of London before the Great Fire of 1666, alongside a dramatic prospect view of the city engulfed in flames.

The hand-applied colour highlights both geographical and decorative features, making this a striking historical piece. Surviving examples of Overton’s maps are valued for their decorative qualities and as enduring artefacts of early British cartography.
