Description:

This original pencil and gouache equestrian portrait by Judy Goodman captures the renowned Irish Sport Horse Murphy Himself, a celebrated competitor in international eventing during the late 20th century. Executed with fine attention to anatomical detail and movement, Goodman’s work highlights both the strength of the horse and the poise of the rider.

Immerse yourself in British equestrian heritage with this exquisite original drawing - signed by celebrated animal portraitist Judy Goodman - depicting Murphy Himself, the legendary grey Irish Sport Horse who triumphed at Le Touquet (1986) and clinched victory at the prestigious Burghley Horse Trials (1986)  .

Murphy Himself went on to represent Great Britain with distinction - securing silver at the 1990 FEI World Equestrian Games in Stockholm, placing second at the iconic Badminton Horse Trials (1991), and competing in team eventing at the Barcelona Olympics (1992) . This piece captures not just a horse, but a moment in equestrian legend.

Known for her animal portraits, Goodman produced a number of equestrian works for private collectors and country homes, with this example embodying her ability to combine accuracy with a sense of character. Measuring 30 × 40 cm (unframed), the drawing is presented in a dark wooden frame with glass protection, making it a distinguished addition to any equestrian or sporting art collection.
