Description:
For years, Isobel Latimer has crafted respected literary novels, but dwindling sales and increasing debts – kept secret from her ailing husband – threaten her livelihood. Desperate for financial success, Isobel and her agent, Troy, devise a plan to create a scandalous blockbuster and a daring new persona to match: the flamboyant Zelda de Vere. What starts as a calculated risk quickly spirals into a disorienting journey of passion, blurred identities, and moral dilemmas. As Zelda embraces a life of champagne-fuelled celebrity and liberated desires, Isobel finds herself questioning where one persona ends and the other begins, notes Philippa Gregory on her website. When she tries to return to her former, more controlled existence, she finds the familiar has changed, leaving her wondering if she can ever truly get back. This engaging contemporary novel delves into the risks we take to be our true selves, exploring the human capacity for self-deception and the intoxicating allure of a carefully constructed identity.
